Workplace Discrimination Lawyers - KLG Law

In the UK, the Equality Act 2010 makes it illegal for an employer to discriminate against an employee. If an employee believes that their employer has done something that amounts to their being treated unfairly in a fashion that is discriminatory, then an employer may be vulnerable to a discrimination claim under the Equality Act 2010.

Types of discrimination in the workplace

Under the Equality Act, there are certain characteristics of people which cannot be used to treat you unfairly:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender (including gender-reassignment)
  • Marriage/civil partnership
  • Race
  • Religion
  • Sex
  • Sexual Orientation

Each of these characteristics is deemed a ‘protected characteristic’. If an employer takes any action that is unfair, and it relates to any of the characteristics listed above, then this may give rise to a discrimination claim.

Discrimination in the workplace

Discrimination claims can be very difficult to handle: only certain kinds of conduct can be deemed to be discriminatory.

Furthermore, the conduct must be of a certain degree before there can be a potential legal action. At KLG, we are experts in the field of employment law with particular specialist knowledge of the law on discrimination.
